VI · The ladder
Rank is a responsibility, not a decoration.
Every rank below carries a real job. You are promoted when you are already doing it, not before. Open any rank to read what it owns.
Command
Holds the Standard and answers for everything flown under it. One seat, and the only one that cannot be delegated.
Takes full command in the Princeps’ absence and runs the organization day to day, so the top of the ladder is never a bottleneck.
Commands a legion in the field. Owns major operations end to end: the planning, the execution, and the debrief nobody enjoys.
Staff — equal in authority
Reviews operations and settles disputes. Rank offers no protection here. The higher the collar, the shorter the leash.
Logistics, treasury and matériel. Decides what gets funded and makes sure no legion runs dry halfway through a deployment.
Recruitment and vetting. Keeps the citizen roll accurate and decides who is worth the Standard.
Officers
Runs a branch — fleet, ground, industry or intelligence — and turns doctrine into standing orders people can actually follow.
The senior centurion. One post in the whole organization, earned in the field and never granted as a courtesy.
Commands a cohort. The rank that actually holds a legion together, and where judgment gets tested every single deployment.
The line
Deputy to the Centurio. Trains the recruits and takes command the moment it is needed, without waiting to be told.
Capital pilot, medic, engineer, gunner. Excused from common duty because the trade is worth more than the rotation.
Certified and deployable. The rank every other rank exists to support.
Non-combatant: mining, industry, logistics. Nova Roma runs on them as much as it runs on its guns.
In training, flying supervised until certified. Nobody deploys unprepared — nobody.
